Assistant Directing

I see assistant directing as the role that holds the center of a set, and it is my greatest passion. My focus is on keeping the day moving with clarity and intention while supporting the director and ensuring that crew can work effectively and safely. I’m drawn to the position because it requires presence, judgment, and the ability to make decisions calmly under pressure.

Through my work in film and television, including the film unit at “Saturday Night Live”, I’ve learned how quickly conditions can change on set and how important it is to respond without creating friction or confusion. I’m comfortable working closely with directors and department heads, tracking the schedule as it evolves, and stepping in early when something threatens the flow of the day.

I work best when I’m prepared but not rigid. I pay close attention to what’s happening around me and adjust in real time, whether that means reorganizing coverage, flagging time concerns, or helping the team reset when momentum starts to slip. I believe strong assistant directing comes from clear communication, consistency, and respect for the people doing the work. I’m pursuing assistant directing as a long-term path and am committed to continuing to grow through hands-on experience and formal training. My philosophy as an assistant director centers on reading situations accurately and responding early, so problems are addressed before they become disruptions and the work can continue without unnecessary friction.
